Summarize your PDFs and lecture notes with AI
KognitiMind's PDF summarizer turns your uploaded study material into a short, structured overview of the main ideas, key concepts and important connections in one click. It works with PDF, PPTX and DOCX files, writes the summary in your account language, English or Hungarian, and keeps it with the document so you can reopen it any time.
What is an AI PDF summarizer, and why use one for studying?
A summary is the short, structured version of a long text: the main idea, the key concepts and how they connect, in one place. For studying it does two jobs. Before you work through a long slide deck or a dense reading, it shows you the structure, so you know what to look for. Before the exam, it is a fast way to bring back what you have already understood once.
KognitiMind works from your own material, not from generic web content. It summarizes what you upload: your lecture slides, the handout from the seminar, the notes you wrote yourself.
How does summarizing work in KognitiMind?
- Upload the file. PDF, PPTX or DOCX, up to your plan's file size limit. On a paid plan, images and scanned PDFs work too.
- The text is extracted. The document is processed slide by slide, page by page or section by section in the background, and its status shows when it is ready.
- Press Summarize. The AI writes a short, structured overview from the extracted text. For a very long document it gets passages sampled from start to end rather than the full text, so the summary is not built from the first pages only.
- The summary stays with the document. Open it again later and it is already there, with no new credits used. A new one is only written if you change your account language.
Can I get an English summary of Hungarian course material?
Yes, and this is where it helps most if you study in Hungary. Many courses mix languages: the lecture is in English, but a handout, a reading or a classmate's notes are in Hungarian, or the other way round. The summary is always written in your account language, whatever language the document is in, so a Hungarian PDF can give you an English overview. Treat it as a guide to the original rather than a translation of it, and look terms up in the source when they matter.
What do you get?
- A short overview of the document with its main ideas and key concepts.
- Structured text you can skim, not another long paragraph.
- An English or Hungarian version, independent of the source language.
- A saved summary you can reopen with the document any time.
What does a summary look like in practice?
Take a microeconomics lecture as a PPTX on supply and demand: slides on the demand curve, the supply curve, market equilibrium and price elasticity, with charts and worked examples in between. The summary gives back roughly this:
- Main idea: the market price settles where the quantity demanded equals the quantity supplied.
- Key concepts: demand, supply, market equilibrium and price elasticity, each with a sentence or two of explanation.
- Important connections: what shifts each curve, and what happens to the equilibrium price when demand or supply changes.
This is an illustration; the actual text depends on your material. Note that what is only in the charts will not make it in on the free plan, because images are processed on the paid plans only.
How do you summarize a PDF well, with or without AI?
- Start with the structure. Skim the headings and slide titles before reading the summary, so you can see what it left out.
- Compare it with the source. Mark what the summary covers too briefly and read the original there.
- Ask follow-up questions. If a concept is unclear, ask about it in the document chat; the answer shows which part of the material it comes from.
- Do not stop at reading. A summary makes it easy to feel you know the material. Flashcards and a quiz show what you actually remember.
What happens to your file?
Your documents are visible only in your own account. For the summary and the other AI features, the relevant text is sent to the Google Gemini API. Deleting a document deletes the file and the flashcards, quizzes and chat made from it.
What comes after the summary?
From the same document you can generate flashcards and a multiple-choice quiz, review the cards on a schedule, and ask the chat about anything you do not understand. The summary is the first step: it shows what the material is made of, and the other tools help you remember it.
What it is not good for, and what to watch
- It does not replace reading the material. A summary keeps the core of a long text, so details, exceptions and worked examples get left out. For a very long document the AI does not get the full text but passages sampled from start to end, so some sections are not in the summary at all. Study for the exam from the source and use the summary as a map of it.
- AI can be wrong. It can misread a relationship, merge two concepts or drop something your lecturer cares about. Check anything you learn from it against the original document.
- There is one summary per document. You cannot set the length, the focus or a chapter. For one specific part, ask about it in the document chat instead.
- Images only count on a paid plan. The free plan does not process photos or image-only scanned pages, so their content is missing from the summary too.
Frequently asked questions
How do I summarize a PDF for studying?
Sign up, upload the PDF and wait until processing finishes. Then press Summarize on the document page. The summary is saved with the document, so next time you just open it again.
Which file types are supported?
PDF, PowerPoint (PPTX) and Word (DOCX), plus images (PNG, JPEG, WebP, HEIC). Images and scanned pages are processed on the paid plans only. The old .ppt and .doc formats are not accepted, so save those as PPTX or DOCX first.
Can it summarize a Hungarian document in English?
Yes. The summary is written in your account language, English or Hungarian, whatever language the document is in. If you switch your account language later, a new summary is written in the new language.
Are the summaries accurate?
They are a good starting point but not infallible. The AI can leave out details or misread connections, so check what you learn from a summary against the original material.
Is my document private?
Your documents are visible only in your own account. To write the summary, the text is sent to the Google Gemini API. Deleting a document also deletes the file and its flashcards, quizzes and chat.
Does it replace reading the material?
No. A summary shows the structure and the main points, which helps you read with a purpose and revise quickly, but details and examples are left out, and a very long document is summarized from passages sampled across it rather than from every page. Use it next to the source, not instead of it.
