Study from photos and scans of your notes
On KognitiMind's paid plans, the AI also reads photos and scans of your notes. It transcribes the text word for word, handwriting included, describes the diagrams, tables and formulas that matter for studying, and adds it all to the document. Summaries, flashcards, quizzes and the chat then work from it just like from typed notes.
Why does reading images matter for studying?
A lot of study material is not typed text: handwritten lecture notes, a photo of a classmate's notebook, a scanned textbook page, a picture of the whiteboard, or a slide whose main point is a diagram. A plain text extractor sees nothing in these. On KognitiMind's paid plans the AI reads them too, so you can study from photos and scans the same way as from typed notes.
What makes it different from a simple text recogniser is that it does not stop at the text. What it reads becomes part of the document and goes straight into summaries, flashcards, quizzes and the chat. Text is transcribed in the language it was written in, Hungarian included, which helps if your notes switch between Hungarian and English.
How does KognitiMind process images?
- Upload the image or scanned document. PNG, JPEG, WebP or HEIC images, scanned PDFs, or PPTX and DOCX files with images in them.
- The AI transcribes the text. Word for word, in its original language, handwriting included.
- It describes what matters for studying. Diagrams, charts, tables and formulas are described in your account language, English or Hungarian. Decorative images are left out.
- It becomes part of the document. The transcription and description are added to the document's text, so the summary, the flashcards, the quiz and the chat all use them.
The document page shows how many images were processed and, if any were skipped, why (for example because they were over your plan's limit). For images, PPTX and DOCX files, the Content tab shows what the AI read for each page or slide, with the transcription and the description listed separately.
How many images does each plan include?
- Free: no image uploads, and image-only PDF pages are not processed. Typed text works as usual.
- Student Pro (1990 HUF/month): 30 distinct images or scanned pages per document.
- Student Pro Max (3490 HUF/month): 100 distinct images or scanned pages per document.
Identical images, such as a logo repeated on every slide, count once, and tiny icons are skipped. Reading the images does not use your AI credits; a summary, flashcards, a quiz or chat built from the result uses credits as usual.
What does a processed page look like?
Take a photo of a handwritten physics note on simple harmonic motion: a few lines of text, a formula for the period, and a sketch of a mass on a spring. After processing, roughly this goes into the document:
- Transcription: the handwritten lines word for word, including the formula, for example T = 2π·√(m/k).
- Description: the sketch shows a mass hanging on a spring, with the equilibrium position and the displacement marked.
From there you can generate a flashcard on the formula for the period, or ask the chat what the period depends on. This is an illustration; how accurate the transcription is depends on your handwriting and the photo.
How do you take a photo that reads well?
- Shoot straight from above, so the page is not distorted.
- Use even light, without shadows or glare from the flash.
- One photo, one page. For several pages, scan them into one PDF so they become one document.
- Check the result. If the transcription is wrong in many places, upload a better photo.
What happens to your images?
Your documents are visible only in your own account. To read them, the images are sent to the Google Gemini API. Deleting a document deletes the file and the flashcards, quizzes and chat made from it.
What it is not good for, and what to watch
- Paid plans only. On the free plan you cannot upload images, and image-only scanned pages inside PDFs are not processed either. A document whose content is entirely on such pages cannot be studied from on the free plan.
- Handwriting and poor photos can be misread. Messy handwriting, blurry, dark or tilted photos, crossed-out lines and tiny writing can all lead to a wrong or incomplete transcription. Check the result before you study from it.
- The transcription cannot be edited. If an image was read badly, you cannot correct it; upload a better photo instead.
- The number of images per document is limited. Student Pro processes 30 distinct images per document, Student Pro Max 100. Images over the limit are skipped, and the document page tells you so.
- AI can be wrong. A diagram description can be inaccurate, and a symbol can go missing from a formula. Check anything important against your original notes.
Frequently asked questions
Can I upload photos of handwritten notes?
Yes, on Student Pro and Student Pro Max. Upload a photo, or scan several pages into one PDF. The AI transcribes the handwriting, and the text becomes part of the document, so you can get a summary, flashcards and a quiz from it or ask about it in the chat. For an uploaded image you can read the transcription on the Content tab; for a PDF the text only enters the document in the background, for generation.
Which image formats work?
PNG, JPEG, WebP and HEIC, the format many iPhones save photos in. Scanned PDFs work too, and so do images embedded in PPTX and DOCX files. Each uploaded image becomes its own document, so scan multi-page notes into a single PDF.
Is this available on the free plan?
No. On the free plan you cannot upload images, and image-only scanned pages in PDFs are not processed. Typed text in your documents works on every plan.
How accurate is handwriting recognition?
With clear handwriting and a good photo it is usually usable, but not perfect. Messy writing, poor light or a tilted photo lead to more mistakes. For images, PPTX and DOCX files you can see the transcription on the document's Content tab, and if it has many errors, upload a better photo.
Does it read scanned PDFs?
Yes, on a paid plan. PDF pages without selectable text are treated as images and transcribed by the AI. Each such page counts toward the per-document image limit.
How many images per document?
30 distinct images on Student Pro and 100 on Student Pro Max. Identical images count once and tiny icons are skipped. Reading the images does not use your AI credits; a summary, flashcards, a quiz or chat built from the result uses credits as usual.
